Foreword

For Chinese candidates, the part that is sure to get points in the GRE and GMAT exams is mathematics, because most of the content of mathematics tests is learned by Chinese candidates in elementary and middle school, and knowledge of advanced mathematics such as calculus will not appear in the exam.Although math in the GRE and GMAT exams is so simple, when we carefully count, we find that not many people get full marks. There are three common reasons for this:

*, carelessness will inevitably occur during the exam, carelessness of reading questions, carelessness of calculating, and carelessness of choosing answers.

Second, the GRE and GMAT math tests test the application of mathematical knowledge in daily life and set questions in English. Some of our candidates may sometimes not even fully understand the meaning of the question because of their poor English level.

Third, we are very familiar with the Chinese expression of some mathematical concepts, such as perimeters, isosceles triangles, single digits, etc., but when these concepts are expressed in English, we often don’t know what we say.

If candidates overcome the above three reasons and cannot do math problems well, they must improve their math knowledge. When I was a GRE and GMAT teacher, I deeply felt that most liberal arts candidates had relatively weak mathematical foundations, and math tests were difficult for them. This situation is more prominent for GMAT students because:

No. *, most of the candidates in GMAT are from the liberal arts.

Second, many candidates have almost forgotten their original mathematical knowledge because they have been working for many years.

Third, although GRE and GMAT exam syllabus are basically the same, GMAT mathematics is more difficult than GRE mathematics.

In order to take care of most candidates in class, teachers from New Oriental basically explain some difficult questions that arise in the exam, and it is difficult to have enough time to systematically explain some basic knowledge and list some questions from easy to difficult. There are few books on the market that comprehensively introduces GRE and GMAT mathematical knowledge to candidates.

Based on my years of teaching experience and a deep understanding of computer exams, the author wrote this book based on the GRE and GMAT math test syllabus, and the explanation of each test point is much more detailed than the syllabus, and the content writing is basically a combination of difficulty and easy. This book is also one of the few reference books on the market to comprehensively explain GRE and GMAT mathematical knowledge points. It is not only suitable for ordinary liberal arts candidates to prepare for the exam, but also science and engineering candidates can learn a lot of knowledge from it.The book describes the relatively weak chapters of Chinese candidates, such as arrangement and combination, probability, statistics, normal distribution, drawer principles, etc., in detail. It is no exaggeration to say that this book can help candidates understand the essence of the GRE and GMAT math tests in a short period of time, and help candidates obtain a satisfactory score.

Although I have tried my best to ensure the accuracy of this book, due to limited knowledge and ability, there are inevitably omissions in the book. Readers are welcome to correct me.
